In Indonesia, UN Women works with government, civil society organizations, academia, the media, the public and private sectors to address national priorities of gender equality and women’s empowerment. Placing the advancement of women’s rights at the center of our work, UN Women Indonesia focuses on (1) Ending violence against women (2) Women’s economic empowerment (3) Governance, peace, and resilience.
As an Advocacy and Communications Intern, you will learn and contribute to the formulation and implementation of the communications and advocacy strategies to increase the standing and awareness of UN Women with partners, the media, and the public, as well as engagement across its digital platforms. The internship will provide excellent learning opportunities to gain a deeper understanding of UN Women communication strategies and methods, as well as insight into the challenges and current gender equality efforts in Indonesia. The Communications Intern promotes a client-oriented approach in UN Women.
Advocacy and Communications
- Support the communications team to develop communication materials such as presentations, templates, etc.
- Assist the communications activities such as campaigns, events, launches, and media briefings.
- Support the Country Office teams to identify and develop key external communication materials, including web articles, briefs, fact sheets, posters, videos, photography, infographics, etc.
- Assist in media outreach, media inquiries, monitoring and maintaining press clippings of print and online media when UN Women is mentioned.
- Support in maintaining library/ database of reference materials and photos and digital assets, as necessary
Social Media
- Draft, prepare, and schedule content and posts for the social media accounts.
- Research additional content (articles/ news/ posts) on women’s empowerment and gender equality and draft the post.
- Assist in the creation of editorial workplan calendar.
- Monitoring all social media channels and engaging audience as necessary.
- Actively expand the network of followers.
- Create, produce or support the production visual assets (quote cards, multi-media graphics, social media video etc.).
- Supports the monthly reporting on reach, engagement and performance of social media campaigns and posts.
Other
- Support general administrative assignments and logistical requirements, as required.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

- Gain insight on strategies and approaches used in UN Women’s communication, visibility work, and advocacy on gender equality and women’s empowerment, and strategies for establishing and maintaining partnerships with various stakeholders.
- Gain experience and understanding of the work of the UN system and UN Women.
- The Intern will be provided with networking opportunity with various programme colleagues and participate in the workshop or seminars for learning purpose.

Functional Competencies:

Education:
- University studies in one of the following disciplines: communications, journalism, public relations, social sciences, international relations, or other relevant subjects is required.
- Meet one of the following:
- Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
- Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelors level or equivalent);
- Be enrolled in a national service obligation programme of which the internship may form a part;
- Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within two-years of graduation;
- Be enrolled in a professional traineeship program which is part of a postgraduate degree programme of which the internship may form part.
Language:
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English are required;
- Working knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.
Remuneration:
Interns who are not in receipt of financial support from other sources such as universities or other institutions will receive a stipend from UN Women to partially subsidize their basic living costs for the duration of the internship.
