Commisioning Metallurgist
Job Purpose:
To support the safe, effective, and timely commissioning of metallurgical processing systems in alignment with process design and operational readiness. The Commissioning Metallurgist ensures that metallurgical performance meets project objectives and operational KPIs during pre-commissioning, commissioning, and ramp-up phases.
Scope of Work:

Pre-Commissioning & Commissioning Readiness:
Review and validate P&ID, mass balance, and commissioning procedures related to metallurgical processes (crushing, grinding, flotation, thickening, dewatering, tailings, etc.).
Ensure completion of punch list items and system readiness checks (MCC energization, loop checks, wet/dry runs).
Support the development of commissioning execution plans, metallurgical test plans, and commissioning checklists.

Commissioning Execution:
Monitor and validate process parameters and metallurgical performance during cold and hot commissioning.
Perform on-site sampling, test work, and metallurgical troubleshooting.
Liaise with EPC contractor, vendor representatives, and plant operations for process verification and handover criteria.
Lead safe startup activities including initial ore feed, water balancing, reagent dosing, and product quality control.

Operational Support & Handover:
Contribute to the training and coaching of plant operations team on metallurgical processes and operational best practices.
Assist in the preparation of SOPs, metallurgical data sheets, and startup manuals.
Monitor metallurgical KPIs during ramp-up phase (recovery, concentrate grade, throughput).
Provide technical reports and documentation for system acceptance and performance validation.

HSE & Quality Assurance:
Ensure commissioning work complies with safety protocols and environmental regulations.
Participate in hazard identification, risk assessments (JHA), and safety walkdowns.

Minimum Requirements:
Education:
Bachelors degree (S1) in Metallurgical Engineering, Mineral Processing, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
Experience:
Minimum 5-8 years in mineral processing operations and/or commissioning projects, preferably in copper/gold concentrator plants.
Proven experience in commissioning or ramp-up of process units (e.g., SAG mills, flotation circuits, thickeners, filters).
Experience in EPC or brownfield/greenfield expansion projects is highly preferred.
Technical Competencies:
Strong understanding of copper/gold metallurgy and mineral processing.
Familiar with commissioning tools, control systems (SCADA/DCS), and data interpretation.
Skilled in metallurgical test work, troubleshooting, and plant optimization techniques.
Knowledge of process safety and HAZOP/LOPA principles.
Other Skills:
Proficient in English (oral and written).
Strong analytical, communication, and coordination skills.
Willing to be based in remote site on roster schedule.
High commitment to safety and continuous improvement.
Desirable Qualifications:
Postgraduate qualification in Metallurgy or Process Engineering.
Familiarity with plant simulation software (e.g., METSIM, JKSimFloat) is a plus.
Previous experience in mentoring and training operational personnel.
