Job Description:
1. Coffee Roasting Operations Management
- Oversee and manage the entire coffee roasting process, including planning, scheduling, and production.
- Ensure workflow efficiency and meet production targets while maintaining quality standards.
- Monitor, inspect, and adjust roasting equipment to maintain optimal performance.
- Coordinate with the production team to plan and estimate production based on demand and inventory.
- Supervise the maintenance of roasting equipment and collaborate with the technical team when necessary.
- Ensure timely delivery of products and prevent delays that could lead to increased costs. Take responsibility for any discrepancies in the production schedule up to the delivery stage.
2. Quality Control & Cupping
- Develop and implement quality control procedures to ensure consistent flavor and quality of coffee.
- Conduct regular cupping sessions and testing to refine coffee profiles and evaluate samples.
- Address roasting issues such as over-roasting or inconsistencies in roast profiles.
- Collaborate with the sourcing team to assess the quality of green coffee beans and develop optimal roast profiles.
3. Team Leadership & Training
- Lead, train, and motivate the roasting team in a positive and professional work environment.
- Provide guidance on roasting techniques, equipment operation, and workplace safety.
- Conduct regular training sessions to enhance the teams skills and knowledge.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
4. Sourcing, Inventory, & Supply Chain
- Collaborate with the sourcing team to select and procure high-quality green coffee beans.
- Manage green coffee inventory to ensure availability for production.
- Build and maintain relationships with coffee producers and suppliers to ensure a smooth supply chain.
5. Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with workplace safety protocols and maintain cleanliness in the roasting area.
- Communicate safety and hygiene rules to the entire roasting team.
- Uphold health and safety standards to prevent accidents and workplace risks.
6. Research & Development
- Stay updated on industry trends, latest roasting techniques, and equipment advancements.
- Lead research and innovation to create new coffee blends and improve product quality.
- Explore various roasting methods to produce high-quality coffee variants.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in the coffee industry, with 3 years in roasting and 2 years in a managerial role.
- Strong knowledge of specialty coffee .
- Solid understanding of coffee roasting operations, from planning and scheduling to production.
- Experience managing coffee production at various scales, from small batches to mass production.
- Ability to work under pressure with strong problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, especially when coordinating with production, sourcing, and supplier teams.
- Willingness to work beyond regular office hours, including weekends and public holidays, if required to meet production targets.
