Junior Advisor on Petland Integrative Land Use Planning (PROMANGROVEPEAT Project)

As part of the Indonesia-Germany cooperation in reducing emissions from the forestry sector and improving the livelihoods of rural communities, a project titled Peatland Management and Rehabilitation has been implemented. The project aims to strengthen planning and implementation capacities for rehabilitating peatland ecosystems and mangrove forests in East Kalimantan and North Kalimantan.
The project integrates policy advisory services and capacity development measures, with activities carried out at the macro, meso, and micro levels, including pilot initiatives. At the national level, policy advice is delivered in close collaboration with the Ministry of Environment.
The project is expected to deliver the following key outputs:
- Integrated protection and sustainable management of peat and mangrove ecosystems in the North Kalimantan and East Kalimantan.
- Improved land use systems and practices for peat and wetland ecosystems.
- Applied research findings and field-based experiences that are documented and disseminated at local, national, and international levels through the Ministry of Environment.
GIZ is recruiting an Indonesian qualified candidate for the position of: Junior Advisor on Petland Integrative Land Use Planning (Job Title in SAP: Junior Advisor Forestry and Biodiversity)
Core Tasks
In your role, you support the officer responsible for the commission in implementing the technical, content-related and organizational aspect of the commission. In consultation with your line manager, you collaborate on planning and steering tasks and on monitoring the activities and measures. You also respond promptly and competently to matters that fall within your assigned thematic area, where applicable in consultation with experienced specialists, and following consultation remain available to answer further enquiries.
You may be assigned individual tasks in connection with project administration and project implementation. You participate in the conceptual design of the project, in particular in the modification or realignment of the project. You provide technical and substantive contributions to overarching issues in cooperation with commissioning parties/clients, partners and other actors and thereby support strategy development.
In coordination with the country director and your line manager, you also use your contact for the acquisition of job orders on behalf of the company. Working with experienced specialists you resolve problems that arise in your area of responsibility on the basis of existing rules and draw attention to more complex challenges in your team.
You clearly communicate the relevant requirements, conditions and restrictions in terms of your capacity to act with due regard for compliance rules and P+R. You deal with the matters and job orders assigned to you with due regards for all the legal, contractual, socio-political and corporate policy requirements and the instructions of your line manager and follow up the processing and completion of those tasks.
Working with experienced specialists, you resolve problems that arise in your area of responsibility on the basis of existing rules and draw attention to more complex challenges in your team.
In addition, you deal with all associated matters in your thematic area promptly and competently.
You provide support for knowledge management and ongoing process development in your area of responsibility. You also prepare and share documentation.
You perform the tasks assigned to you by your line manager, where required.
Main Activities
- Support the design and implementation of project activities and technical assistance in North Kalimantan, in accordance with GIZ standards and in close collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and as well as local authorities in North Kalimantan.
- Contribute to achieving the projects goals and deliverables, as agreed upon with implementing partners, within the project team, and/or as directed by the supervisor.
- Implement project activities related to integrative land use planning for peatland and mangrove protection in a timely and high-quality manner.
- Assist the Principal Advisor in ensuring GIZs strategic contribution to wetland management (including peatland, mangrove, and blue carbon topics) by providing professional advice to partners and maintaining effective communication.
- Support the development, operationalization, and implementation of a strategic operational plan and corresponding annual work plans, in close coordination with project partners.
Qualifications
- University degree in forestry, environmental management, cartography, GIS or other degree relevant to climate change mitigation program;
- At least 2 years professional experience in a comparable position
- Knowledge on geographic information system, remote sensing and knowledge in GIS software (including the opensource GIS software) particularly in relation to land based sector.
- Knowledge and expertise in climate change emission including carbon/emission measurement and reporting
- Understand the basic concept of sustainable development in relation to climate change
Other knowledge, additional competences
- Good working knowledge of lTC technologies (related software, phone, fax, email, the internet) and computer applications (e.g. MS Office)
- Strong managerial and organizational competence
- Willingness to travel to districts regularly
- Good written and oral knowledge of the English language widely used in the country
- willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed -corresponding measures are agreed with management.
