Job Title: R&D Inorganic Chemist - Lubricant & Grease Formulation

Placement: Kapuk, North Jakarta

Job Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate R&D Inorganic Chemist with expertise in lubricant and grease formulation to join our R&D team. You will be responsible for researching, developing, and optimizing high-performance lubricants and greases by leveraging your deep understanding of inorganic and organic chemistry. Your work will directly contribute to the innovation of products that meet industrial standards and fulfill OEM requirements across diverse sectors.

Key Responsibilities

• Formulate and develop lubricants and greases using inorganic thickeners such as lithium, calcium, aluminum, or sodium-based soaps.

• Research and incorporate organometallic additives (e.g., ZDDP, molybdenum dithiocarbamate) for improved performance.

• Analyze and understand base oil chemistry including paraffinic, naphthenic, aromatic, and synthetic ester/polyol/ether compounds.

• Conduct laboratory testing to evaluate the physical and chemical properties of raw materials and finished products.

• Support scale-up processes from lab to pilot and production scale, addressing formulation issues and stability concerns.

• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (Production, QC) in product development and troubleshooting.

• Ensure compliance with industry standards (ASTM, ISO, OEM specs) during product formulation and testing.

• Prepare and maintain accurate documentation such as Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), Technical Data Sheets (TDS), and internal reports.

• Continuously evaluate and standardize new raw materials to enhance product performance and cost-efficiency.

• Work in a dynamic R&D team, using iterative trial and error methods to create innovative solutions.

Job Requirements

• Bachelors degree (S1) in Chemistry, preferably focused on Inorganic Chemistry.

• Min. 2 years of experience in R&D for lubricants, greases, coolants, or industrial chemicals.

• Strong understanding of inorganic thickeners (Li, Ca, Al, Na) and organometallic additives (ZDDP, molybdenum compounds).

• Solid knowledge of organic compounds relevant to base oils and synthetic lubricants (hydrocarbons, esters, ethers, polyols).

• Experience in lab testing, formulation troubleshooting, and product scale-up.

• Familiar with ASTM, ISO, and OEM standards in lubricant industry.

• Skilled in preparing MSDS, technical documents, and handling chemical safety protocols.

• Able to collaborate in cross-functional teams and work in a dynamic R&D environment.
