Underwriting Assistant Manager - Retail Lines
Key Responsibilities:
Underwriting & Risk Assessment
Oversee underwriting decisions on retail general insurance risks within delegated authority levels.
Ensure all risk assessments are accurate, aligned with company guidelines, and comply with regulatory frameworks.
Escalate and review high-value or complex cases, providing strategic guidance.
Portfolio Management
Monitor portfolio performance including loss ratios, profitability, and market competitiveness.
Identify trends, opportunities, and risks across product lines and recommend corrective actions where needed.
Conduct regular audits of underwriting files to ensure quality and compliance.
Team Leadership
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of underwriters across various product lines.
Set performance targets, conduct reviews, and foster a high-performing and collaborative team environment.
Provide ongoing training to ensure technical and regulatory knowledge is up to date.
Stakeholder Management
Collaborate with sales, product, and marketing teams to align underwriting practices with business goals.
Support key distribution partners by offering underwriting expertise and market insights.
Represent the underwriting team in cross-functional and strategic discussions.
Product & Process Development
Contribute to the design and enhancement of retail insurance products based on market feedback and actuarial input.
Recommend and implement underwriting process improvements, automation, and digital underwriting tools.
Ensure underwriting rules are updated and appropriately embedded in policy systems.
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Insurance, Business, Risk Management, or a related field. Professional insurance qualifications (e.g., AAMAI, ANZIIF, ACII) are highly preferred.
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in general insurance underwriting, particularly in retail lines (e.g., Property, PA, Motor, Liability).
Strong understanding of underwriting principles, pricing strategies, and risk selection.
Proven track record in portfolio analysis, loss ratio management, and identifying corrective underwriting actions.
Experience in handling complex or high-value cases, with ability to provide strategic input and escalation guidance.
Familiar with regulatory compliance and insurance market practices in Indonesia
