Firewall L2 Engineer

Job Summary The Firewall L2 Engineer will provide operational support for managing, configuring, and optimizing , and troubleshoot network security infrastructure, ensuring firewall security policies, configurations, and performance meet business and compliance requirements.

Key Responsibilities 1. Firewall Administration & Policy Management

• Configure, manage, and optimize firewall policies, NAT rules, and security controls.
• Troubleshoot firewall-related connectivity issues
• Monitor firewall logs for security events, anomalies, and performance issues.
• Ensure proper segmentation and access control based on business requirements.

2. Network Security & Incident Response

• Investigate escalated security incidents related to firewall breaches, network intrusions, and unauthorized access.
• Work with SIEM tools (Splunk) to analyze firewall-related security alerts.
• Support incident response and forensic analysis by extracting relevant logs from firewalls.
• Fine-tune firewall rule sets and security controls.

3. VPN & Remote Access Management

• Troubleshoot site-to-site VPNs and firewall-based secure connections.
• Implement high-availability and failover configurations to ensure network uptime.

4. Compliance & Security Best Practices

• Ensure firewall configurations align with security standards
• Maintain compliance with industry regulations
• Assist in security audits by providing firewall logs, configurations, and technical documentation.

5. Firewall Performance & Optimization

• Monitor firewall resource utilization (CPU, memory, sessions) and optimize configurations.
• Perform regular rule reviews, policy clean-ups, and firewall tuning to enhance efficiency.
• Implement firmware and security updates to protect against vulnerabilities.

Education & Certification Requirements: 1. Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field. 2. Preferred Certifications:

• Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Administrator (PCNSA)
• Fortinet NSE 4 or higher
• CompTIA Security+ (for foundational cybersecurity knowledge)

Technical Skills

• Hands-on experience with firewall platforms (Palo Alto, Fortinet, Check Point, Juniper).
• Strong understanding of firewall rule configurations, NAT, ACLs, and threat prevention mechanisms.
• Knowledge of SIEM tools (Splunk) for firewall log analysis.
• Familiarity with network security protocols (TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, VLANs, DNS, DHCP).

• Ability to work under pressure and handle security incidents efficiently.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.

Experience Requirements

• 3-5 years of experience in firewall administration or network security engineering.
