Director of Engineering

In 2026, the first The Serai Hotel & Resorts, the new luxury lifestyle brand of GHM, will be opening on the island of Belitung in Indonesia.

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of Engineering to join our pre opening and opening team.

Responsible for overseeing all engineering operations of the hotel, including building maintenance, energy and utilities management, safety systems, and capital projects.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee daily operations of the engineering and maintenance department.

• Ensure the hotels physical assets are maintained in excellent condition.

• Implement and manage preventive and corrective maintenance programs.

• Monitor utility consumption (electricity, water, gas) and identify opportunities for cost savings.

• Implement energy-saving and green initiatives where possible.

• Plan and manage capital expenditure (CAPEX) projects, including renovations, upgrades, and installations.

• Work with contractors, architects, and consultants on major works.

• Ensure compliance with all local building codes, health and safety regulations, fire codes, and hotel brand standards.

• Maintain all permits, licenses, and inspection certifications up to date.

• Lead, train, and develop the engineering team (technicians, mechanics, electricians, etc.).

• Prepare staffing schedules and performance evaluations.

• Prepare and manage the engineering budget and forecast.

• Provide regular reports to management on departmental performance, issues, and improvement plans.

• Respond quickly to guest issues related to engineering and maintenance.

• Ensure all facilities (e.g., elevators, AC, plumbing, lighting) meet guest expectations.

Qualifications Required:

• Bachelors degree in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical/Civil) or equivalent.

• Minimum 5-8 years of engineering leadership experience in a 4- or 5-star hotel.

• Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical systems, water treatment, elevators, and fire safety systems.

• Proven experience with energy management systems and building automation.

• Strong leadership, communication, and crisis management skills.

• Proficient in MS Office and engineering-related software.
