Position Overview

A Civil or Geotechnical Engineer is required to support the ex-Kelian Mine site by monitoring and maintaining the existing tailings and water storage facilities, as well as other engineered structures. The position demands adherence to local, international, and Rio Tinto standards. The site is in passive closure and necessitates continuous monitoring and maintenance. Additionally, the role involves managing natural slope risks at the site and providing any necessary engineering advice and design.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure that the monitoring of tailings and water storage facilities complies with the sites Operational Maintenance and Operation Manual as well as internal company standards.

• Evaluate and report on monitoring data.

• Provide leadership to the site team regarding the management of tailings and water storage.

• Ensure that the site team receives proper training in tailings, dam safety, and slope hazard management.

• Support the implementation and tracking of actions and recommendations from various reviews, such as annual dam safety reports, Independent Operational Reviews, and the Independent Technical Review Board.

• Assist the Responsible Dam Engineer in managing tailings and water storage risks at the site.

• Support the Site Qualified Individual in managing natural slope risks.

• Participate in risk assessment workshops.

• Update the sites Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to the monitoring and maintenance of tailings and water dams.

• Conduct monthly reviews and reports on monitoring results.

• Assist in managing slope hazard risks and civil slope stabilization efforts on site.

• Support site personnel training in the management of tailings and water dams.

• Lead the reporting of any incidents related to tailings, water dams, and slope hazards.

• Prepare statutory reports for government agencies.

Education / Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field.

Experience

• Preferably 2 years minimum experience in civil or geotechnical engineering roles, although graduates with any relevant experience with dams may be considered.

• Experience with geotechnical software packages and ArcGIS preferable.

Work Environment

The Civil/Geotechnical Engineer will be based at the Kelian ex-gold mine site in Kutai Barat, Kaltim. Work roster will be notional 5 days on, 2 days off for locally based, or a fly-in, fly-out roster will be considered for applicants outside the area.
